Even more old recaps of season 6...

“Dr. Linus”

Favorite Parallel Universe story thus far. Did a great job of putting Ben in a position similar to the island timeline. Which is why I liked it the most. It was a great mirror image of Ben in the Island timeline. He had to make a choice between himself and Alex. Just substitute Charles Widmore for Principal Reynolds and you have a very similar situation. Ben makes the right choice this time.

I really liked that Ben was changing his father’s oxygen tank. This is ironic because he uses a small tank of gas to kill his father in the island universe. This is also the first time in the parallel universe where the island’s existence was discussed. I’m guessing Roger and Ben left the island well before it eventually sank to the ocean. By the way Roger was discussing that they shouldn’t have left the island and that the Dharma folks were good people and would have provided a great life for Ben, I suspect they left well before there was probably a massive evacuation of all Dharma personnel. It sounded like neither had any idea that the island no longer existed. Only other little snippet to mention was that, Ben was tutoring Alex on the East India Trading Company. This is a reference to the Black Rock. Alex’s last name was Rousseau, she mentioned her mother working two jobs to get by. Me thinks we meet a perfectly sane Danielle Rousseau this year.

Island Timeline: Ben/Beach camp: Not too much to comment on. A great character redemption story for Ben. In the end. Nothing really answered except why Illana collected Jacob’s ash… so Miles could determine Jacob’s death. We also learned why Jacob sent Illana to the island: to protect the candidates. The MIB reveals to Ben that his group will be heading to the Hydra Island so they can leave the island. I loved the shout out to Nikki and Paolo and we saw that Miles dug up their grave to get the diamonds they were buried alive with. Nice the show didn’t ignore them totally. Interesting note: Miles tells Ben that Jacob was hoping he was wrong about Ben right before he died. Ben will definitely redeem himself 100% before it’s all over.

Richard/Jack/Hurley/Black Rock: After seeing everyone dead at the temple, on top of Jacob being dead, Richard’s had enough of his long life. I guess Jacob was right about Jack needing to stare out in the ocean for a while. He seemed to accept that he and everyone else had a great destiny to fulfill on the island. This scene also pretty much confirms what most have suspected: Richard = Black Rock. Interesting note: Richard says Jacob had told him he is part of a plan and that everything is happening for a reason. Further confirming for me that Jacob knew he was going to die and its part of his plan for humanity to save it’s self.

The final beat of the episode: Charles Widmore’s long awaited return to the island in a sub! How did he find it? He claimed he couldn’t return. Is this who Jacob sent to the island?

“Recon”

My least favorite episode of the season. A setup episode for the rest of the season. Parallel universe: Sawyer is a cop instead of a con man. He uses the code word “La Fleur” while working. This was his fake name while working with Dharma in the 70’s. Miles is his partner; this makes sense since they were partners in Dharma security. Miles mentions his parents to Sawyer. Who doesn’t seem to use the name Sawyer in this universe. I’m guessing both Miles parents are alive and evacuated the island together in this timeline. Sawyer still wants to find the real Sawyer who led to his parent’s death: Anthony Cooper. We know Locke seems to have a relationship with his dad in this universe. Why do I think somehow Sawyer is going to find the real Anthony Cooper at say… John Locke’s wedding? We also get a cameo by Charlotte as Sawyer’s date setup via Miles. We also get a cameo by Charlie’s brother Liam. He was searching for Charlie since being arrested on the plane. Sawyer reads a lot of the same books that he read on the island. The storyline ends with him and Miles capturing a fugitive Kate. Again, fate bringing everyone together despite not meeting on the island.

Island timeline: I was glad to see the show did not forget about the random survivors of the Ajira plane still on Hydra island. I am 100% convinced that the MIB killed all of them. Probably the random errand had to do that he told Sun about last season before they continued on their journey with Ben to be judged by the monster. I think MIB partially sent Sawyer to the hydra island so he could get some alone time with Kate. He is going to need her for something. Most likely to convince the other candidates to come with the MIB. MIB mentions his crazy mother. This was a way of getting some sympathy out of Kate. No doubt we will learn more about crazy mom. They didn’t just throw this in there randomly.

Hydra Island/Widmore: I already am not a fan of Zoe or as my friend George says, “Why the hell is Tina Fey on Lost?” May she and the rest of the Widmore goons become smoke monster food ASAP! We see the pylons being setup similar to the Dharmaville area. Hopefully we’ll get an explanation on how they keep the MIB out. The show is really trying to play with our minds about Widmore. He seems to dismiss Sawyer’s claim that he sent the merc’s on the freighter to kill everyone. Even though it wasn’t revealed in this exact episode… I was right about it being Desmond locked up in the sub! The episode ends with the weakest last beat in awhile on Lost… Sawyer telling Kate while Widmore and MIB have their war, they’re going to leave on the sub. Ah who’s going to drive it?

“Ab Aeterno”

Top 5 of all time!!!! I’m going to make this quick. Here is a breakdown of everything the episode gave us. Which isn’t even why I really liked it. Why it rocked is because it was a blend of everything we want from this show. Character development, answers, themes of redemption/faith, tear jerking scenes!

Everything we needed to know about the Black Rock: How the slaves died, what happened to the crew. Loved that we didn’t see Captain Magnus Hanso but he was mentioned. If you look at the blast door map in the hatch there is a mention of the burial site of Captain Magnus Hanso. Magnus Hanso of course, is related to Alvar Hanso, whose Hanso foundation led to the Dharma Initative. See it’s all connected! I also loved how they killed 2 birds with 1 stone: How the black rock ended up in the middle of the island and the statue falling: Tsunami wave!

And yes I believe the black rock was the boat that Jacob and the MIB were looking at in the morning when we first met them in the season 5 finale. If you remember back to when the freighter blew up: Juliet could see the freighter sinking from the island. The freighter couldn’t the island though. It’s safe to say the black rock was still far in the distance and didn’t reach the island’s pocket until night.

Something very important about the island!: It is what keeps evil at bay. Who knows if this is an actual gateway to the underworld that is contained by the island or not. I do think that not just the MIB is a threat though. But also the electromagnetic energy underneath the island. Which is why pushing the button and releasing excess energy was so important. I also think the MIB’s smoke persona has a direct relation to the electromagnetic energy.

Everything we needed to know about Richard Alpert: His back-story and why he doesn’t age – we knew it was a gift from Jacob but the reason behind it? Because he feared dying and maybe going to hell for accidental murder! He wanted to live forever so he could build up penance with God. Brilliant!

The birth of the “others” – before Richard, Jacob just brought people to the island to prove the MIB wrong. Jacob does not want to get involved with the people. He wants people to come to the island and have a clean slate of their past. Richard explains if Jacob doesn’t get involved though then the MIB will. Jacob thinks about this and offers Richard the job of his liaison between he and the people. It’s this moment where the people we have referred to as the “others” really became born. Think about it: Richard will now over see everyone and report back to Jacob of what is going on. All while not interfering and letting things happen as they happen weather they be right or wrong. Because Jacob told him everything was happening for a reason. That Richard was part of that plan.

More on the MIB/Jacob: we got a little more of their relationship and saw what might have been the mib’s 1st attempt on Jacob’s life. I think it was the 1st attempt because Jacob seemed generally surprised by Richard showing up and trying to kill him. Think back to when Mr. Eko and Locke kept having dreams with Horace Goodspeed of Dharma and Yemi Eko’s brother. The MIB did the same thing to Richard. He scanned Richard as the black smoke like he did Eko. He then came to him as the thing he desired to get him to do his bidding: in this case, his wife Isabella. MIB indicates to Jacob that if Jacob dies and brings a replacement, he’ll kill the replacements to. Which is a pretty strong indication that he is planning on manipulating the candidates into somehow killing each other so he can leave the island. Interesting to note that Jacob couldn’t bring back the dead or wipe a man of his sin. He could give him eternal life though. Makes me think that Jacob’s true gift is that of healing/life. Also interesting how MIB tells Richard that Jacob stole his body. I’m starting to think Adam and Eve are no longer Rose & Bernard. How bout young MIB and his crazy mom? Jacob definitely has something to do with him being smokey.

The episode wraps up with us learning that team Jacob: Richard, Jack, Hurley, Miles, Frank, Sun, Illana, Ben have their next barking orders: stop the mib from leaving the island for the sake of the entire world!

Another thing to note: In the beginning of the episode Richard really didn’t know what to do next. Despite Illana being told by Jacob that Richard would know. This again goes back to Jacob’s plan. He knew Richard would runaway toward his wife’s necklace and lose his faith. He knew Richard’s wife would be the one to come to him and restore his faith and tell him what would be next for them.

“The Package”

Parallel universe storyline: Jin and Sun not married. Neither speak English. Secret relationship. Martin Keamy given $ to kill Jin for Sun’s dad. Sayid gives Jin box cutter to escape. Mikahli the other from season 3 appears as a bad henchmen and we see him die by getting his eye shot out. Very cool/clever way of killing him since in the island timeline he only had 1 eye. Sun gets shot and is bleeding. It’s revealed she’s pregnant …dun dun dun! In the island timeline Jin had an infertility problem. Does he still? Is the baby his? Also random thought that is not important: Keamy tells Omar to get Danny’s friend (Mikahli) I’m guessing Danny is Danny Pickett, the other who wanted to kill Sawyer badly in the early part of season 3.

Island timeline: It’s pretty much revealed MIB is using Kate to get to other candidates. Once he has them he could careless about her. Claire’s name was crossed off to. Does he not care about her either? Probably. Sayid has continued to go down a path of being soulless. MIB thinks this might be a good thing for what’s coming. Can someone say lots of death/war?

Love that Widmore wanted Jin to identify electromagnetic pockets based on paperwork that he signed off on when he was in Dharma at some point between 1974-77. Very cool reference to them time traveling.

The fact that Desmond is the package and the rules of time and space don’t seem to imply to Desmond makes me think Widmore is going to use him as someway of merging the timelines. I still think Widmore is out for himself. Jacob sent Desmond to the island. It wasn’t done with him yet. He just happened to get there via Widmore’s sub since Jacky boy threw a temper tantrum and smashed the lighthouse mirrors.

What is up with Widmore and the MIB not knowing each other???? I was convinced they had been in cahoots! Love that the show threw that curve ball. When the MIB told Widmore that a wise man once said war was coming to this island. He was referencing one of John Locke’s memories. Widmore had visited Locke and told him a war was coming to the island.

I still want Zoe and rest of Widmore goons gone asap. Perhaps soulless Sayid Jarrah could do that now that he is at the hydra island.

Perhaps we could safely assume now that Widmore was the one shooting darts at the oceanic 6 off island. We all kinda thought this already. But seeing them get nailed with tranquizer darts kinda confirmed it.

Before everyone goes nuts about the MIB not being able to turn into smoke and go over the water… hear me out! I am 100% convinced that the MIB being a smoke form has direct relation to the electromagnetic energy underneath the island. Therefore if that energy is not underneath him he ain’t able to turn smokey. Probably how the sonar fences Widmore has up keep him out. Maybe the ash that keeps him out contains some form of iron? This was put into the show for a reason.

Team Jacob/Beach camp: Interesting how MIB reaches his hand out to Sun and she runs away. When Jack reaches his hand out to her at the end of the episode she takes it. Nice touch. As much as this show throws twists at us I think as far as who the next Jacob is they will go the obvious route of Jack.

We have noticed moments like Jack recognizing his appendix scar in the parallel universe as hints of the island universe bleeding in. Is Sun forgetting English an indication of the parallel universe bleeding into the Island universe? Interesting.

Prediction: Remember last season when Locke/Juliet/Sawyer etc were time traveling? They got to the beach camp and found 2 outriggers. 1 had an Ajira airways plane water bottle. They took the 1 outrigger to go to the orchid station so Locke could turn the wheel. All of a sudden another group of people started shooting at them from the other outrigger. Then shot back and hit 1 of them. Then they time flashed. Well with Widmore’s group at the Hydra Island and the MIB and company going back and forth on an outrigger. I am guessing we will soon see this happen again from the other outriggers pov. The only question who in this other outrigger will be the one getting shot? I think it would be great if say a time traveling Sawyer shoots Sawyer in the MIB outrigger, etc.

Namaste!
